Shortcomings

I am not very good at this.

I basically reset this blog in an effort to compel myself into posting more and more frequently, and when I do post, more insightfully. Clearly, I have fallen short of my goal.

I think about posting pretty much every day, though. So from now on, I'm going to try to act on that - or, at least, do it more frequently.

Anyway, there hasn't really been much to post about of late. I did have pierogi and some really good czarnina for dinner on Wednesday...it was a great dinner, and I should have gotten some czarnina to go.

I've realized that I left high school to complete my BA, then I've re-entered high school to complete my JD. Many of the students seem so juvenile at times (i.e. stuck in their freshman year of undergrad), and it's kind of clique-y. Maybe it's because I've been sequestered away for the last couple years with students of a similar mindset, at a university where the students, generally speaking, have little to naught in the way of interest in their fellow students. (This reminds me of another point - how did I get in here with these people from UM, MSU, charity work, etc on their applications? I know I pale in comparison) Admittedly, I am not here to socialize and make friends - I have no interest in it at this point. I'm not opposed to it, but I'm definitely not as invested in it to the degree the majority of these kids apparently are. Partly, it is because I'm very strongly looking to transfer away to complete my degree. Don't get me wrong, Wayne is certainly a very good school (for certain things) and has the second-highest ranked law school in Michigan after the University of Michigan (the other two in the state are MSU College of Law and Cooley Law School), but I know my chances for success are greater if I can graduate from a more highly-ranked school - sad truth of law schools. Better chances at getting a federal judicial clerkship, better chance of getting a good Big Law job (or something equally gratifying), better chance of a better life.

Living in Grosse Pointe (Park) is pretty much what I expected. I am fairly isolated from everything and everyone, and I now understand why the Grosse Pointes are known as being heavily insular communities. Generally speaking, it would be possible for me to never leave the area, except to go to class - there are a couple Krogers (Woods and Farms), many local markets, a Better Health Market, the Sprout House, quite a few clothing stores, an inordinate number of Einstein Bagel stores, vehicle dealerships, restaurants (not much variety there, though) - everything an upper-middle/upper class family could need. But I need more variety...

For future posts I will be trying to concentrate more on the scholastic aspect of my life; since this is kind of just filler, I didn't really bother with that too much.

Up to Speed

After just over one month of classes, I've thrown myself into this law school venture pretty wholeheartedly. The classes I have (Torts, Contracts, Criminal Law, Civil Procedure, and Legal Research and Writing) are only now starting to be slightly confusing/difficult, though I honestly think that's more due to the fact that I don't really do my reading or studying anymore.

I'm already starting to slack off.

In other news, I've moved from Royal Oak. I now live in Grosse Pointe Park, about four blocks from the Alter Road - the border with Detroit. Generally, I like my apartment...it's two bedrooms, one bath, with hardwood floors (freshly refinished) throughout. I'm still getting situated, and have yet to unpack at least three boxes of stuff. The only downsides are the incessantly creaky floors, steam heat, and the total lack of a washer/dryer, which itself is a huge pain.

I've also discovered that there is a bit of a mouse problem here in the building (I would say my apartment, but I know it's not originating from here). So far I've only caught two, but it would appear they were the two main mice, because though I have seen one since then, it doesn't appear to have been active. I hate the idea of mice. It's disgusting. Mice are carriers of hanta virus, you know.

Plus, I live across the street from an organic, etc. grocery store/prepared foods place(?), which is pretty awesome. Not to mention the hardware store a couple blocks down the street (the same hardware store they used for the hardware store scenes in Gran Torino, with Clint Eastwood), and the little bakeries and restaurants I've yet to visit.

There was a Farmer's Market every Saturday over the summer, but last weekend was the last one for the year. It's a shame, because that's where I did the majority of my produce shopping for the upcoming week.

I've been feeling very lethargic lately, and annoyed with myself, so I've started getting back into working out. I've started with a personal trainer (through the university) and I hope to whip myself back into shape fairly soon.

I've been feeling so tired lately - I hope that helps.

Parthenogenesis

You may have noticed, I've emptied out my blog and am starting anew. I've decided to make this into a record of my life as a law student, and will be keeping it updated as best I can. I think I'm going to shoot for every other day...we'll see.
